I’ll be honest. When I went into the video store last night to look for something, I was not looking for a horror movie. I was looking for Sylvia, but I picked this up as a second pick, although I wanted to see this at the movies as it struck me as similar to Saw or Hostel. But aside from the gore, it doesn’t really match up.
Some would say both Saw and Hostel didn’t have much a story, but I think they did and it was done pretty well. The Hills Have Eyes was not done well. The imagery and atmosphere of the movie was good, and there were disturbing and freaking scenes, but as a whole, this movie was a disappointment. It’s just another cliché take on the ‘stick a group in some fucked situation and watch them hack or get hacked’ type movie.
I think I’d rather go see some of the movies Fred recommended.
The Hills Have Eyes, horror, movie, review, gore, story, Saw, Hostel
The original version of this movie was good, but only because it came out in the 70s and there were no other movies like it at the time. I watched about 45 minutes of the remake and shut it off because I got bored.
I am surprised that you didn’t like this movie. I haven’t seen this new one as of yet but I have seen the older version (YEARS AGO). I really wanted to see this one too but I just haven’t gotten the chance to as of yet. I have seen Saw and it was a pretty good movie too. I would just like to see how this movie was redone. Heck, I survived the older version so maybe I’ll survive watching this version as well.
Thanks so much for the review! I’m going to rent it this weekend and I’ll come back and let ya know what I think!
Yeah, the remake is meant to be better. I have to get hold of it somehow.
I liked this movie! Hunter Cashdollar
