Racist Hanson needs to be opposed

Hanson slammed as ‘bloodsucker’ – National – smh.com.au

When I saw on the news that Pauline Hanson was thinking of running again for re-election, my blood boiled. And then I thought, “I have to blog this!” There’s been several attempts at starting this post, but most of the time I’ve turned away. Now, I’ve accepted that I will never be able to convey my anger at this racist re-entering the spotlight.

The fact that she has been lifted to the status of celebrity, appearing on Dancing with the Stars, is a disgrace. You really have to question the state of things when a racist is considered some kind of icon. And the media, driven by profit and not truth and transparency, are fully behind her. The media, as it has been post-September 11, and after the Cronulla riot, have always been in support of racism. They don’t have to actively endorse her politics to support her, the fact that they are giving this lunatic so much attention is endorsement enough.

I’m not even going to bother responding to her outrageous claims about African immigrants bringing disease or claims that Howard is bending over backwards to accommodate for Muslims. Any one with a sane mind can see that these claims have no basis.

What I want to point out is, some people who claim to be from the Left are saying they oppose her, but support her right to run. Let’s make this clear. She has no right to run. Supporting her right to run does not mean you’re being fair and democratic, it just gives nut cases like her the opportunity to take away the rights of others to freedom of speech. If Hanson had any power in this country, or she saw a further shift to the Right in politics, Muslims and other immigrant groups would be subject to even more repression.

That is why anyone with a desire to change the world needs to make the hard argument against Hanson and her racist ideas, and become active in opposing racism and all the other rotten things capitalism dishes out to make a profit.

Hanson, racist, racism, right-wing, Cronulla, media, free speech, Muslims
